Magic win, Van Gundy to coach East squad (AP)

Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy shouts to the officials that his player was fouled in the first half of an NBA basketball game against the Detroit Pistons Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, in Auburn Hills, Mich. The Magic's 91-86 win over the Pistons means the Van Gundy will coach the Eastern Conference in the All-Star game Feb. 14 in Arlington, Texas. The Magic has second-best record in the East through January, behind Cleveland, and Cavaliers coach Mike Brown is not eligible for the honor this season because he coached the East in last year's game.

Even though the Detroit Pistons are having their worst season in 16 years, coach Stan Van Gundy knew his Orlando Magic were in trouble Sunday night. After all, the Magic had lost 10 of their last 11 visits to the Palace of Auburn Hills, and they were knocked out of the playoffs by the Pistons in 2007 and 2008.
