The NCAA is giving Connecticut another week to respond to allegations that the school’s basketball program committed eight major rules violations. The university was expected to respond by Aug. 20, but that deadline was moved last month to Sept. 3 based on requests by the coaches cited in the allegations.
Top Missouri recruit won’t start season (AP)
A highly regarded basketball recruit will not start the season for the Missouri Tigers. Tony Mitchell has not enrolled at the university for academic reasons and is currently ineligible to play basketball. Coach Mike Anderson says in a statement that he is hopeful Mitchell can join the program in the spring semester.

Former Oklahoma player Pryor dies at 85 (AP)
Former University of Oklahoma basketball player Ken Pryor, whose basket lifted the Sooners into the 1947 NCAA championship game, has died. School spokesman Mike Houck said Thursday that Pryor died on Tuesday at the age of 85. Houck did not know the cause of death, which was first reported by The Oklahoman.

Spartans G Lucious charged with DUI (AP)
Michigan State guard Korie Lucious has been charged with drunken driving. The 20-year-old Lucious was pulled over early Monday near the East Lansing campus and his blood-alcohol level was 0.09 percent, according to a police report. The legal limit in Michigan is 0.08 percent. Michigan State coach Tom Izzo issued a statement saying he’s aware of the ticket and was still gathering information.
WVU’s Mazzulla, Pepper cited by police (AP)
Two West Virginia basketball players have been issued citations on a disorderly conduct charge. Morgantown Municipal Court Clerk Joyce Marshall said Tuesday that police cited guards Joe Mazzulla and Dalton Pepper for allegedly urinating in public Sunday. Marshall says if the pair contest the citations, they’ll face a Nov.

MGM Resorts International was under investigation after the underage son of basketball great Michael Jordan bragged on Twitter about partying at a Las Vegas Strip nightclub, Nevada gambling regulators said Monday. Officials were examining whether the casino operator violated laws prohibiting drinking or gambling by minors, Nevada Gaming Control Board enforcement chief Jerry Markling said.
