Cavaliers F Varejao becomes free agent (AP)
Cavaliers forward Anderson Varejao did not exercise his option on a $6.2 million contract for next season, making him an unrestricted free agent. The hustling Varejao posted career-highs in starts (42), scoring (8.6), field-goal percentage (.536) and minutes (28.5) per game last season for the Cavs, who won 66 regular-season games but were eliminated in the Eastern Conference finals by Orlando.
Gerba’s 2 goals lift Canada (AP)
Ali Gerba scored twice in Canada's 3-0 victory over Guatemala on Tuesday in a warmup game before the Gold Cup. Patrice Bernier also scored for Canada, which plays Jamaica on Friday to open the Gold Cup tournament. Gerba's goal in the fourth minute set the tone. He headed home a cross from Marcel de Jong.
Nuggets’ Smith gets jail for fatal crash (AP)
A judge sentenced Denver Nuggets guard J.R. Smith to 90 days in jail Tuesday night for causing an auto accident that killed his friend, though Smith will likely end up serving only 30. Municipal Judge Debra J. Gelson suspended 60 days of the sentence providing Smith performs 500 hours of community service consisting of visiting sick children at hospitals.

911 call from Stallworth crash released (AP)
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte' Stallworth said on a 911 call that the man he struck with his car while driving drunk "came out of nowhere" before the crash. Stallworth is serving a 30-day jail sentence after pleading guilty to DUI manslaughter in the March 14 death of 59-year-old Mario Reyes.
Harrisburg stuns New England in Open Cup (AP)
The Harrisburg City Islanders came from behind to upset the New England Revolution 2-1 in overtime in a third-round match Tuesday night in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Geoff Bloes scored the winning goal late in the first overtime. Mo Odur also scored for Harrisburg City, which plays defending Open Cup champion D.C.
NHL supports Reinsdorf’s bid for Coyotes (AP)
The NHL believes Jerry Reinsdorf can succeed where Jerry Moyes failed as owner of the financially ailing Phoenix Coyotes. Reinsdorf, the owner of baseball's Chicago White Sox and the NBA's Chicago Bulls, has offered $148 million to buy the Coyotes out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy and keep the team in Glendale, a suburb west of Phoenix.
